Leave Palin's Family Alone!

Ok, John McCain has chosen a running mate and not everyone may like her but that is who he chose. Sarah Palin, the current governor of Alaska, is going to be John McCain's running mate and quite possibly the next Vice President of America. I don't think it was the wisest choice for him but that is his decision and it is Palin's decision to accept the nomination. Yes, she is a mother of five and yes, her daughter is pregnant but that shouldn't have anything to do with how she would be in the White House. No one should care if her daughter is pregnant and if they do it shouldn't be to criticize her but to support her and see that even though her daughter is pregnant she still believes she can do a great job in the White House. I am not a fan of John McCain or Sarah Palin but I think that her family should be left out of the media and that it shouldn't be a deciding issue in the race for the White House. Also, I think that this is going to be a historic race for the White House because no matter what there will be a first. Either the first African-American president or the first woman vice president but it will be a first and a different race. John McCain kind of is thinking that the people who voted for Hilary Clinton would change and vote for him because of his Vice President post but it is highly unlikely and he is just going to have to try another way to get those people to vote for him!

I definitly agree with this post. Im not a Mccain or Palin fan either, but i think that it is terrible the way that people have become so focused on Palin's personal life. Politics are a completely different subject, and whether or not her daughter is having a baby shouldnt effect the kind of vice president she will be. People should really also think of what they are doing to her daughter. Teen pregnancy is something that happens to many people each year, but they dont have their mistakes blasted all over the media, so why should she? Just because she is connected to Palin does not mean she should be treated any differently than a normal teen.

I completly agree with both of you about her family should be left alone. But that will never happen beacuse alot of her focus points lie between the line of mother and maybe vice president. She is very anti abortion so the press will look at her daughter and see oh she is anti-abortion, then there is her metaly handy capted infant son. she is for helping the metaly dissabled and once again the press will look to her family. I think maybe she wants to show her family cause it backs up every thing she is going for as a cadditate

I agree with all of you. I think that it is nobody's business but her own. If she wasn't the running mate to Mccain then nobody would care. I think that people just want to have a reason to hate her, and finding stuff out about her family is their way.

Victoria,

It’s a tough issue because we’re talking about public figures here and the scrutiny the media puts them through is relentless. One thing you might explore is the nature of double standards: what would happen if Obama, for example, had a teenage daughter who was pregnant? Or, why is it that so much attention is paid to Palin’s clothing, but not to Joe Biden’s cosmetic “enhancements”? Think about the larger themes of race and gender mentioned here and keep up the passion!
